increase urban sanitation
How might we promote urban sanitation habits?
The sanitation problem in India is often studied in the rural context. The Promote Urban Sanitation Habits (PUSH) Project, addresses the urban sanitation issues through the behavioral lens. Below are are excerpts from the final report (which was created in book format) that outline the problem statement, primary & secondary research, piloted concepts and final insights.
Primary & secondary research
The high effort of using a toilet due to long waiting times, uncleanliness and erratic water supply hinders toilet usage from becoming a habit. On the contrary, the ease of defecating in the open leads to a hard forming habit.
The interventions were designed to:
- Eliminate disgust
- Increase relevance of toilets
- Decrease risk perceptions attached to using toilets
